River and sea fishing (as one of the sports) is widespread. And what about without her! After all, the entire coast in the recent past consisted of former fishing villages, which have now become famous world resorts (Marbella, Estepona, Malaga, Puerto Banus, Sotogrande, Tarifa and others).

However, fishing in Spain in general and on the Costa del Sol in particular implies special rules for catching fish. To do this, you need to obtain a special license (in the case of sea fishing, it is issued for a period of 3 years, for river fishing - for 1 year).
Only such a license 'just buy' can not. It is necessary to take special courses or contact a special company that has such a license. Moreover, there are a lot of such companies on the coast: they can even organize a whole excursion, as well as provide you with full equipment (from fishing rods and spinning rods to boats and yachts).
In any case, it is necessary to have a license in order to be calmer and avoid unpleasant police checks, which can result in fines (and in Spain they 'seriously hit the pocket' of foreigners!)
Fishing is especially attractive because, having caught fresh fish with your own hands, you can bring it to a restaurant, where the chef will cook it for you, or simply sell the fish to the same restaurant.

At the same time, the sea, lakes and rivers simply abound with different varieties of fish.
In the summer season, tuna swims so close to the shore that you can almost grab it with your hands. Swordfish is generally considered a 'royal trophy'. In addition to these fish species, the sea is overflowing with mackerel, sea bass and other shark species.
In general, the world championships in sea fishing among Europeans are held on the Costa del Sol.
Sea fishing is good both in winter and in summer (but in the period from September to December, the bite is much better).
Fish are usually caught during the daytime and away from the coast (on a yacht or from a boat). However, night fishing is also popular. And the bite is even better at night, when the fish swims close to the shore, for which you do not need to sail far.
In addition to river fishing, river and lake fishing is also popular. For lovers of this type of fishing, it is simply a paradise here: trout, pike, karm, barbel (it was listed in the Red Book in Russia!) and many other species.
It is especially worth noting that the fishing spots on the Costa del Sol have clear boundaries. There are also rules to follow.
For example, in the province of Cadiz, if you fish for rainbow trout in the El Bosque Grazalema area, then you are entitled to take no more than 10 specimens and only from the second Sunday of March to August 31st.
In the area of Cordoba on Lake Santa Maria, you can enjoy carp, barbel, tench all year round without restrictions.
The province of Granada has its own fishing conditions in different places: only 10 rainbow trout can be taken on Quentar, none on Alhama de Granada. Carp, chub and a local variety of perch (blak-bass) will delight you all year round, but no more than 10 per fishing trip.
