Information about Estepona

Estepona is located at the foot of the mountain range against the backdrop of the picturesque, dark red mountains of Sierra Bermeja (Sierra Bermeja) of volcanic origin with the highest peak of 1449 meters, which are part of the national natural park.

From the high slopes of the surrounding mountains, you can clearly see the Atlas mountain range, located in North Africa.

Many small mountain rivers flowing from here to the sea form an unusually fertile area covered with plantations and citrus trees. Naturally, such a heavenly climate cannot but attract many tourists here. Meanwhile, the local government is pursuing an extremely wise policy in the field of mass development planning, which allowed Estepona to retain its original 'green' appearance, and even receive a special prize for the quality of urban development in 2004.

Like many cities along the coast, Estepona was founded by the Phoenicians, who originally named the place Astapa (from the Arabic 'Estebbun', but the prehistoric ruins on the hill of El Torreon indicate that these places were inhabited long before the Phoenicians. Other attractions include you can highlight the ruins of the castle 'Calle Castillo', preserved from the time of King Eric IV (XIV century).

In the old town (Casco Antiguo) it is worth seeing the Church of the Virgen de los Remedios (Iglesia de los Remedios) - 18th century, from 1725 to 1766 it was a monastery of the Franciscans;
Clock Tower (Torre de Reloj), which originates from an Arab mosque. After the conquest of Estepona by the Castilians, it turned into a church (in the 18th century a neoclassical dome was added); the fortress of San Luis (Castillo de San Luis), built by order of the Catholic Kings at the beginning of the 16th century, from which only ruins remained; Selwo Aventura is a huge zoo where you can spend the whole day. Here are collected more than 2,000 animals from five continents, which are created such conditions that it seems that they are at large.
Estepona has a port (Puerto Deportivo). Although it is inferior to Puerto Banus in luxury and much smaller than it (443 moorings for ships from 8 to 35 meters), it has its own charm. Yachts side by side with fishing boats, and this gives the port a special flavor. A favorite place for tourists and residents of Estepona, as there are many restaurants and bars.

Today, Estepona has a lively, truly Spanish feel and is one of the favorite places to relax: picturesque streets and squares, traditional Spanish houses and wide, lined with orange trees, side by side with world-class luxury hotels, golf courses and shopping complexes.

The city has a large number of cafes, restaurants and beach bars, many boutiques, a hypermarket and the Correfour shopping center, excellent medical facilities, sports complexes, a convenient marina and a wide variety of cultural events.

Estepona, the New Golden Mile, is the name of the part of the coast from Puerto Banus to Estepona. It includes the areas of Guadalmina, Atalaya, El Paraiso, Los Flamingos, Cancelada, Guadalmansa, El Velerin and the suburbs of Estepona.

In the absence of land plots on the Golden Mile by the end of the 90s of the last century, all construction smoothly moved to a new area. The main difference between real estate in this area is apartment complexes and private villas, which are new objects with high-quality and more modern finishes.
